Application Deadline
To ensure full consideration, applications should be received through the MU Graduate School online application portal, Slate, before Feb 1. However, decisions on early or late acceptance can be made at the discretion of the department and the Director of Graduate Studies.
Application Components
Transcripts: Upload unofficial copies of all transcripts. If you are accepted by our program, you will be asked to provide official transcripts to MU Graduate School. Please do not send official transcripts until you have received an official letter of acceptance.
Test Scores: Official GRE or GMAT scores are required for all applicants. There is no minimum score required, however, typically successful candidates score well on their exam. Plan to take your test early enough to have official scores submitted by the Feb 1st deadline. We ask for official scores so that if selected, an offer of admission can be made without delay.
GMAT code is 596-15-99. GRE & TOEFL codes are 6875.
Statement of Purpose: A statement of purpose includes a description of your career objectives and your interests in the area to which you are applying. You may also use this opportunity to describe why your skills and experiences will help you be successful in a doctoral program.
Resume/Vita: Should be up to date with work experiences and educational experience. It should also list relevant research and academic achievements as applicable.
Letters of Recommendation: Request recommendations from at least three references through the online application system. There are no firm guidelines regarding who the references should be, though references who can comment meaningfully on your academic skills and likelihood of success in Ph.D. program are particularly valuable.
English Proficiency Requirements for International Students: All non-native English speaking applicants must submit one of the five Language Proficiency Tests with minimum scores found on the MU Graduate School web page, Language Proficiency Testing Options
Some non-native English-speaking applicants may be exempt from the language proficiency testing requirement. To be exempt from this requirement, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Completed at least one-year of full-time college-level study at a school in a country where English is the native language within the last two years.
- Successfully completed the year of study (passed all the classes).
- Enrolled full-time for a minimum of one year, defined as 24 credit hours over 2 semesters at the undergraduate level, or 18 credit hours over 2 semesters at the graduate level. Note: English as a second language, intensive English, and/or remedial English courses cannot be included in the credit hour count.
All of our students are required to teach as part of our program, and because of that, language proficiency requirements are held at the highest standard. If you do not meet the language proficiency waiver requirements above, we do not offer waivers for any other reason.
Whether or not the score is waived, according to University policy, all teaching assistants who received their elementary and secondary education in a country where English was not the official language must participate in a language screening upon admission to the program. The International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP) is responsible for ensuring that all teaching assistants and graduate instructors who are not native speakers of English speak well enough to ensure communication in the classroom.
Supplemental Information: Supplemental Information is the opportunity for you to enter information or upload one document that does not fit into any preset links in your application. If you need to explain something about your application or clarify information, you can. This is not a required component of your application and you are encouraged to only enter information you feel is necessary or would be helpful to faculty reviewing your application
