Founded in 2005, the Jeffrey E. Smith Institute of Real Estate and Capital Markets operates within the Department of Finance of the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business. Its mission is to provide educational opportunity in real estate to students of the Trulaske College and to members of the professional real estate community.
The Institute enhances the real estate curriculum by providing instructional support in the area of real estate, coordinating student internships with commercial real estate firms, and providing opportunities for visiting real estate practitioners to interface with students. The Institute hosts an annual forum that attracts internationally known speakers from the real estate industry. Participants in the forum include members of the professional real estate community and students involved in the real estate curriculum.
The Institute's desire for excellence is enhanced by the continued dedication of the Director, the faculty and the Advisory Board's constant guidance. They seek to continually improve the quality of the existing programs within the Institute and to also create new opportunities for students to interact with business professionals in different settings.
One such existing program is the annual national-level "Emerging Issues and Trends" Forum that is hosted by the University of Missouri Trulaske College of Business and sponsored by the JES Holdings, LLC. This event highlights the Institute’s commitment to their students in bringing nationally recognized professionals in real estate to speak and meet with students. It also provides students the opportunity to meet and interact with the many real estate executives from the Midwest that attend the forum.
