Where in the World? Trulaske ITC Alumni Spotlight: Mariah Oke-Thomas

Mariah Oke-Thomas interned with the MU ITC during the Fall 2023 semester. She graduated from the Trulaske College of Business in December 2023 with a BS BA with an emphasis in marketing. With interest sparked to pursue a career involving global trade, Mariah ultimately landed a position working for the World Trade Center – Kansas City. 

Home Town: Springfield, Missouri

MU Background:  Mariah interned was an ITC Student Intern during the Fall 2023 semester. She graduated from the MU Trulaske College of Business in May 2023 with a BSBA with an emphasis in Marketing.  

Current Status: Mariah currently serves as the Coordinator of the World Trade Center Kansas City, part of the Greater Kansas City Chamber. In this role, she has the privilege of assisting regional businesses in expanding their global networks through international trade. She also educates companies on the intricacies of exporting and importing, empowering them to navigate the global marketplace successfully.

Favorite feature about living abroad or working internationally: “For me, learning about different countries’ cultures and business customs to enhance my communication skills and build stronger relationships is a favorite feature of my current position. This knowledge also helps me to bridge the gap between international businesses and Kansas City companies looking to expand internationally.”

Something from (or about) home you miss: My mom's cooking. 

Words of Advice (for MU ITC Interns or Students still in school):”Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore new experiences, especially those outside your major. You never know what opportunities might come your way!”
