Risk Management and Insurance Certificate now available at Mizzou

The newly established Risk Management and Insurance Program receives approval to award academic certificates

The Coordinating Board for Higher Education has approved a new Undergraduate Certificate in Risk Management and Insurance awarded by the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri. The Missouri Department of Higher Education had previously recommended approval.

In 2013, the Trulaske College of Business announced the launch of the academic program in Risk Management and Insurance at the beginning of the college’s yearlong Centennial Celebration. The program was designed to provide undergraduate students academic coursework that would prepare them for opportunities in risk management and insurance. The growing industry is actively seeking new graduates to fill 400,000 positions by 2020. Today, students who complete the 15-credit-hour concentration will receive a Risk Management and Insurance Certificate which will be noted on their transcripts.

A series of generous gifts made the program’s launch a reality, including lead corporate support from Missouri Employers Mutual, Columbia Insurance Group and Shelter Insurance as well as individual support from Duncan and Shirley Matteson, Tom and Betty Scott, and Peter and Ellen Clune. Fred Travis directs the program and brings more than 30 years of experience in the field.
