MBA candidate receives Chinese government award

Trulaske College of Business MBA candidate Yang “Alice” Cheng received a 2016 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad, which recognizes exemplary Chinese students studying internationally without government funding. The award come with a $6,000 cash prize from the China Scholarship Council. Cheng was one of only 501 students worldwide to receive an award.

Additionally, Cheng was one of 10 students from that group chosen as “extra-outstanding,” which earned her another $10,000. She was presented with the honor April 27 in Chicago.

Cheng also is a doctoral candidate with MU’s School of Journalism under Professor Glen Cameron, specializing in corporate and public relations and crisis and conflict communications. Her most recent research involves new media effects on crisis communication and the agenda-setting theory. She plans to wrap up her studies and May before joining the faculty at North Carolina State University.
