Crosby MBA candidate selected as Deaton Scholar

Trulaske College of Business student Nick Kumburis has recently been selected to participate in the Deaton Scholars Program with the Deaton Institute for University Leadership in International Development. The program utilizes the strengths of the University of Missouri’s global relationships and exceptional extension abilities in championing methods of strengthening global food systems, alleviating extreme poverty and hunger prevention through the use of evidence based-solutions to tackle food and hunger challenges. 

Nick, a Crosby MBA candidate with an emphasis in finance and Platoon Leader for the 428th Transportation Company in the U.S. Army Reserve, said he is grateful for the opportunity to have his work make a difference in the lives of those in his community and throughout the world. 

“I’ve been fortunate enough to get a bachelor’s degree, fortunate enough to learn logistics from the Army, and now fortunate enough to study finance here at Mizzou. If I can take my knowledge and give back to communities that need help, I feel it’s my duty as an American citizen to do so.” 

Scholars of the program will engage in learning events and conferences centered on global food security, as well as collaborate with other participants on project development through collective peer mentorship. Nick said he is looking forward to applying his supply chain management and logistics experience, as well as his finance and business background, in support of the program’s mission and is honored that his actions will have a tangible and realistic impact for Missouri and the world.
