The Cornell Hall Trading Lab is an immersive environment that offers Trulaske students and faculty access to real-time financial data and is designed to mimic the feel of a real trading floor.
At the heart of the trading lab are three dedicated Bloomberg Terminals, which are professional-grade platforms that provide integrated access to real-time and historical financial data, analytics, and news across global markets. Users can track companies, analyze industries, build financial models, and evaluate trading strategies using the same platform used by investment banks, hedge funds, and major corporations. The terminals include built-in analytical functionality for tasks like discounted cash flow (DCF) modeling, relative valuation, credit risk assessment, and portfolio analytics. They support scenario analysis, event studies, and backtesting, allowing users to evaluate how assets or portfolios respond to macroeconomic shocks or firm-specific events. Additionally, the Bloomberg Excel API enables users to seamlessly pull data into spreadsheets for advanced modeling and automation, enhancing both classroom learning and research capabilities.
The trading lab is surrounded by five full-size screens continuously displaying financial news from CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox Business, etc. to keep users informed of market-moving developments. Overhead, a scrolling ticker displays current pricing on the major U.S. stock market averages and the Investment Fund Management (IFM) Program’s current portfolio holdings.
The lab is an essential resource for students enrolled in the IFM program, but also for any Trulaske student seeking to apply their classroom knowledge, work on case studies, conduct data-driven research, or simply keep apprised of their own personal portfolios.
The trading room provides a place for me to focus and collaborate with my peers to support my learning in the classroom. The Bloomberg terminals give students like me access to real-time data that can be used to solve real and complex problems in finance. Access to the Bloomberg terminals has prepared me for a future as a finance professional and gives Trulaske students an edge in the workplace.
