About Accountancy
The School of Accountancy's educational mission is to provide students with the knowledge, learning capabilities, and personal and professional skills necessary to excel in professional and academic careers. The school’s research mission is to create economic and social value through the discovery, application, and dissemination of knowledge related to accountancy theory, practice, and education. The school is committed to maintaining a close relationship with the accounting profession and to fulfilling its service responsibilities to the academic community and society.
The School of Accountancy is nationally recognized for excellence. The school’s faculty members have earned PhD degrees from the nation’s leading universities and are committed to excellence in teaching, research and service. Faculty members produce important scholarly work, collaborate with researchers from other top universities and foster learning environments that allow students to become the future leaders in the business world and academia.
Learning Paths
The 150-Hour Program - combined BSAcc / MAcc degre
This program merges a Bachelor of Science in accounting and a Master of Accountancy into an integrated 150-hour curriculum (to be entered into as a junior). The curriculum provides students with a strong technical accountancy background, a broad advanced business background and professional skills such as public speaking and information systems skills.
Master of Accountancy - MAcc
With a strong demand for accountants, a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) degree is the premier avenue to connect you to a high demand field. The Master of Accountancy is available to you 100% on-campus and provides access to our team of nationally ranked faculty.
PhD Program in Accountancy
The purpose of our PhD program is to train and prepare students for academic careers at institutions having research and teaching missions. We focus on training students for state-of-the-art archival research, and we encourage joint research projects with our faculty. The typical time to complete the degree is four to five years.

Public Accounting Report
In the most recent Public Accounting Report Annual Professors Survey, the School of Accountancy is now ranked 13th for Undergraduate program, 11th for master's degree program and 17th for the doctoral program. When adjusted for faculty size, the school is ranked third for Undergraduate programs and fourth for Master's programs. The School offers a 150-hour program which awards both a master’s and bachelor’s degree upon graduation. The combination of rigorous degrees positions students for successful job placement in a competitive market with more than 95 percent employed at graduation.
Academic Research Productivity
Another important development is the recent research productivity ranking among Top 10 in the nation, as reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education. The ranking is based on a comprehensive analysis of disciplines in over 155 universities by Academic Analytics, an independent consulting firm. For accounting, the rankings were based on publications during the period 2015-2018.
CPA Exam and Job Placement
The University of Missouri is ranked among the top in the nation for CPA exam pass rates. Mizzou was ranked in the Top 5 in 2017 Q2 and, in most recent years, among the Top 10 in the large public schools category. The School of Accountancy has also had AICPA Elijah Watt Sells Award winners (for high scores on the CPA exam) for several years. As reported in Accounting Today (February 2021), the School of Accountancy is ranked #2 in the nation out of 521 accounting programs (and #1 among the 251 largest accounting programs) on the CPA Exam Success Index. Domestic full-time job placement rates are routinely between 95-98 percent each year.
