Stephen Downing
Stephen Downing is an Assistant Professor in the Management Department at the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr., College of Business, University of Missouri. Dr. Downing completed his Ph.D. in Management from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, in the spring of 2020. During 2019, he was a visiting Ph.D. student at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, and at Gatton College of Business and Economics, University of Kentucky. Dr. Downing studies how organizations understand and engage with their competitive environment. Within the domains of strategy and entrepreneurship, his research explores the influences of inter-organizational networks, technological change, and market signals including firm public language use in the interactions among rivals and nonmarket organizations. His work has been published in management outlets including the Academy of Management Journal. Prior to pursuing his doctoral degree, he managed regional distributor sales for a surveillance hardware manufacturer and co-founded a business-to-business software-as-a-service startup in Taiwan for small- and medium-sized service enterprises.
