Balal Hossain is a third-year doctoral student in the School of Accountancy at the University of Missouri-Columbia. His research interests include financial accounting and auditing topics, with a focus on debt markets. In particular, he is interested in examining the dynamics of debt covenants, the role of accounting information in both public and private debt markets, and the real effects of capital market information friction and regulatory oversight.

Prior to joining the Mizzou Ph.D. program in 2022, Hossain worked in the commercial banking industry for nearly five years. In his most recent role as a senior credit analyst, he underwrote loan proposals, designed debt contracts, and monitored small to medium-sized corporate borrowers, among other key responsibilities. He also worked for an investment fund in Fort Worth, Texas, as an equity research analyst covering financial sector stocks.
Outside of work, he indulges in cricket matches, follows soccer enthusiastically, and seeks out coastal destinations for leisure trips.
