Trulaske College of Business honors faculty successes from past year

The Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business is home to an accomplished faculty with expertise in accountancy and business. Its scholars are contributing to the body of knowledge while developing the next generation of professionals. On March 15, staff and faculty members came together at the Reynolds Alumni Center to celebrate faculty members and PhD candidates for successes and achievements in teaching, research and service. 

Interim Dean Stephen Ferris announced the following promotions and appointments:

  • John Howe was appointed Finance Department Chair.
  • Wayne Keene was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor.
  • Inder Khurana became the Geraldine Trulaske Chair of Accountancy.
  • Elaine Mauldin was promoted to full professor.
  • Marsha Richins became the Bailey K. Howard World Book Chair of Marketing.
  • Dan Turban became the Emma S. Hibbs/Harry Gunnison Brown Chair of Business and Economics.
  • Vairam Arunachalam was appointed Chair of the AACSB accounting accreditation peer review teams for University of Connecticut and North Carolina A&T State University.
  • Jere Francis is the Associate Editor of Contemporary Accounting Research.
  • John Howe was appointed to the Board of Directors at Aerovalve and ImpeDx.
  • Murali Mantrala was appointed Co-Editor for the Journal of Retailing.
  • Karen Schnatterly became Associate Editor for the Journal of Management.
  • Sterling Yan is Associate Editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Financial Studies.
  • Shaoming Zou is the Series Editor for Advances in International Marketing and the Consulting Editor for Journal of International Business Studies.

School of Accountancy Successes

Inder Khurana was awarded the Trulaske College of Business Distinguished Research Achievement Award, which acknowledges faculty members who has exhibited sustained scholarly excellence and achievements.

Kyonghee Kim was awarded the Trulaske College of Business Mid-Career Faculty Service Award, which  recognizes sustained scholarly excellence among mid-career Trulaske College of Business tenure track faculty members.

Nate Newton was awarded the Raymond and Mary Ann O’Brien Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching by a full-time faculty member in the college. 

Faculty member of the year by the graduating accounting class of 2015 was presented to Nate Newton. 

Erin Anderson was recognized with the Helen Williams Award for Accountancy 2026 which was presented at the annual meeting of the national Association for Distance Education and Independent Learning (ADEIL).

 

Finance Department Successes

Kuntara Pukthuanthong’s paper, “A Protocol for Factor Identification,” is one of three 2015 recipients of the Jack Treynor Prize, sponsored by the Q-Group (The Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance). She was recognized by MU as a Top Faculty Achiever for this award. 

 

 

Marketing Department Successes

Fengxia Zhu and Detelina Marinova were awarded Best Overall Conference Research Paper for “Quality-Efficiency Trade-offs in Service Organizations: A SFA-based Approach with Application in Health Care Services” at the 2015 Winter AMA Educators’ Conference in San Antonio, Texas. 

Sunil Singh’s dissertation, with Detelina Marinova as Dissertation Chair, was the 2015 ISBM Dissertation Competition Award Winner and the 2015 AMA Sales SIG Dissertation Competition Award Winner.

Srinath Gopalakrishna, Andrew Crecelius, and Ashutosh Patil received the MSI grant of $5,000 for the project “Assessing the Drivers of Sales Prospecting Effectiveness: An Empirical Study.”

Marsha Richins was awarded the Shelter Insurance Companies Teaching Excellence Award in Marketing, which recognizes excellence in teaching within the Department of Marketing.

Josh Bax was awarded the Special Award for Excellence in Marketing Education, which recognizes a member of the marketing faculty who has made outstanding contributions to the development and execution of special offerings in the Marketing Department.

 

Management Department Successes

The article “Austrian Economics and Organizational Entrepreneurship: A Typology” by Sara S. R. S. T.A. Elias, Todd Chiles, & Qian Li, received the Academy of Management History Division’s Best Student Paper Award.

The Executive MBA Excellence in Education Outstanding First Year Teacher Award was awarded to Antonie Stam.

Barbara Downey was awarded the John A Riggs, Jr. Excellence in MBA Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in teaching.

Daryl Smith was awarded the Bruce and Pam Walker Outstanding Faculty Service Award, which recognizes excellent, sustained on-campus and professional service by a faculty member.
