The International Trade Center(ITC) at the University of Missouri's Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business hosts the annual Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) to help enhance the import and export skills of employees and better position Missouri and U.S. companies to be successful in today's global market.

The annual training session is geared to company representatives, trade community members and students who are seeking to secure the CGBP credential. Seven Mizzou students and 21 trade professionals from across the country participated in the 2025 training, which was hosted by Zoom in order to make the program convenient and affordable to participants.

Supported by NASBITE International, the CGBP credential confirms knowledge in international trade and assures that certified individuals are able to practice global business at the professional level required in today’s competitive environment. The CGBP credential raises the level of practice in the field, provides professional development goals for credential holders and showcases competency. The NASBITE CGBP certifies that a candidate is competent in the following four areas of global trade:

  • Global Business Management
  • Global Marketing
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Trade Finance

Attending the CGBP Exam Prep training hosted by the ITC better positions candidates for success in passing the CGBP exam. The training offers an overview of the core elements of international trade for businesses and trade professions that are competing in the world of international business.

Several training attendees sat and passed the CGBP Exam, including Jim Smith, Operations lead at Cerillo based in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“I sat for the CGBP exam a couple weeks ago and got my official results today confirming I passed with a high score!," Smith said. "The class you delivered, along with the resources provided, were instrumental in my preparation for the exam and gave me a lot of confidence going in. It has been a long time since I have participated in a classroom setting and learned such a large amount of new information, but the way the class was structured and the insights that Jim Foley (class instructor) provided made it easy to fit everything together and digest the wealth of information we received. Sincere thanks to Jim and the ITC team.”

Mike Strope, president of MSSC LCC (and focus of the “What in the World? ITC Company Spotlight” of the January 2026 MIZZOU ITC NEWS) was also another training participant who now holds the CGBP credential.
