Steve Utke is currently an associate professor and holds the Forvis Mazars Professorship. Prior to joining the University of Missouri, he was an associate professor at the University of Connecticut. He earned his PhD from the University of Georgia, masters degree from Villanova University, and bachelors degree from Bucknell University. Prior to academia, he worked as an audit staff and tax senior at Ernst & Young in Philadelphia, and then as a tax manager at a private equity and hedge fund in the New York/New Jersey area. He is a licensed CPA in NJ and PA and an Elijah Watt Sells award winner.
Steve’s research covers a wide range of topics including the effects of shareholder-level taxes on individuals and businesses, as well as many aspects of the private equity market. He has published his research in several academic journals, including The Accounting Review. He has served as a journal editor and an editorial board member. He also regularly performs peer reviews of submissions to an array of accounting and finance journals.
