Role
Kenneth R. Evans served as Professor of Marketing at the University of Missouri from 1991 to 2006. During his tenure at Mizzou, he served as Chair of the Department of Marketing and Associate Dean of the Trulaske College of Business. His excellence in teaching and academic leadership was recognized through numerous honors, including the University of Missouri Faculty-Alumni Award (2005), the Pinkney C. Walker Professorship in Teaching Excellence (2003), the University of Missouri Golden Chalk Award for Outstanding Instruction (2001), the University of Missouri College of Business O’Brien Teaching Excellence Award (2001), and the MBA Association Teacher of the Year Award (1994–1995).
Professor Evans also played an instrumental role in revitalizing the doctoral program in marketing at the University of Missouri. In particular, he contributed significantly to recruiting and developing a core group of research-active marketing faculty, helping strengthen Mizzou’s research profile and long-term standing in the field.
Professor Evans’s scholarly expertise centered on sales management and services marketing. He was a highly cited and accomplished marketing scholar whose research earned numerous prestigious recognitions, including the AMA Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award, the AMA Louis W. Stern Award, the Hans Thorelli Award for Excellence in the European Journal of Marketing, and several other conference paper awards. He also served as Editor of the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, further reflecting his leadership and influence within the marketing discipline.
Taken together, Professor Evans’s contributions to the University of Missouri extended well beyond his own scholarship. Through his teaching, academic leadership, doctoral-program development, faculty recruitment and mentoring, and service to the broader marketing discipline, he made a lasting contribution to Mizzou and to the field of marketing.
