Dr. Zou teaches undergraduate Global Marketing and Marketing Management, MBA Managerial Marketing and International Marketing, and Ph.D. seminar on Applied Multivariate Analysis in the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business. He holds a Ph.D. degree in marketing and international business and an MBA degree from Michigan State University, and a B.S. degree in mathematics from Sichuan University in People’s Republic of China. Before joining the University of Missouri - Columbia, Dr. Zou taught the MBA Advanced International Marketing and Advanced International Business at Kansas State University .

Dr. Zou's expertise is in the areas of marketing strategy-performance, global marketing strategy, determinants of export performance, and product and promotion adaptation in international markets. His research has been published in major marketing and international business journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Business Studies, Decision Sciences, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, and Journal of Advertising, among others.

Dr. Zou is one of the most cited scholars in international marketing. His 1994 publication in Journal of Marketing was selected by American Marketing Association Global Marketing SIG in 2003 for the inaugural "Excellence in Global Marketing Research Award" for having significantly influenced the direction of global marketing research in the previous 10 years. His 1998 publication in the Journal of International Marketing received the 1998 Hans B. Thorelli Best Paper Award from American Marketing Association for having made the most significant contribution to international marketing theory and thought. His 1998 article in International Marketing Review received from MCB University Press the 1999 Best Paper Award for having made the most significant contribution to the international marketing literature. His 2001 publication in Marketing Intelligence & Planning received the Emerald Literati Network's "Most Downloaded Articles - Top 200" Award in 2005.

Dr. Zou served as the Departmental Editor of Marketing between 2005 and 2007 for the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), the top academic journal in international business. He is the current Editor of Advances in International Marketing. He serves on the Editorial Review Boards of Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of International Management, and Multinational Business Review. He reviews on an ad hoc basis for Journal of Marketing, Decision Sciences, Management Science, Journal of Business Research, International Business Review, and International Marketing Review. Dr. Zou also served as the Conference Co-Chair, Track Chair, Session Chair, or Reviewer for various professional Conferences.
