KATIE ESSING is an Adjunct Professor of Marketing, teaching retail and digital marketing courses.
Katie has over 20 years of experience in marketing, retail and commercial real estate. Most recently, Katie was the Executive Director for the Downtown Community Improvement District. The Downtown CID strives to encourage a centrally located, live/work/play neighborhood; create an authentic, dense and sustainable urban space; cultivate a creative and innovative culture of diverse enterprises; and maintain the local and eclectic flavor of the area. In this role, she provided direction and implemented the organization's strategic plan. A 15-member board governs the Downtown CID, representing property owners, business owners and residents throughout The District. Previously, Katie was the Senior General Manager for The Mall in Columbia, Maryland, owned and managed by General Growth Properties. Katie also served as the Senior General Manager for Columbia and Capital Malls in Columbia, Missouri. In addition, she was the Group Vice President of Marketing for a group of Midwest shopping malls.
Katie is an active member of the Columbia Metro Rotary Club. Essing is involved in the community, including volunteering with the True/False Film Fest, Chamber of Commerce and the International Downtown Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Essing previously served on the Marketing Advisory Board.
She received her B.S.B.A. degree from the University of Missouri in 1996.
