Professor Franz is a member of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), Decision Sciences Institute, and The Institute for Management Science (TIMS). He has directed an international project to build a business school at the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu in Sibiu, Romania from 1993-99, funded primarily with approximately $500,000 from the United States Information Agency (USIA). Three awards have been bestowed upon him in recognition of his international accomplishments with the Romanian project: the Honorary citizen Award from the mayor of Sibiu in March 1996, the Doctorat Honoris Causa from Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu in May 1999, and the Provost Award for Leadership in International Education for 1997-98. His teaching and research interests include information systems implementation, user involvement in systems design, and evaluating the planning and impact of project management in organizations. He has published in several journals including Decision Sciences, MIS Quarterly, Information and Management, and Management Science.
