New program in Risk Management and Insurance launched at Centennial kick off

Celebration of the Trulaske College of Business’s centennial year began with the announcement of a new program in risk management and insurance, funded by $1 million in donations from corporate and private donors. Finance students interested in the specialized area will graduate with specific skills in managing risk for corporations, businesses and individuals.

A series of gifts made the program’s launch a reality, including individual support from Duncan and Shirley Matteson, Tom and Betty Scott, and Peter and Ellen Clune along with lead corporate support from Missouri Employers Mutual, Columbia Insurance Group and Shelter Insurance.

Joan Gabel, Dean of the Trulaske College of Business, made the announcement at the annual Davenport Society dinner on October 25, 2013 as part of the launch of the college’s yearlong celebration of its 1914 founding. She states:

“Insurance and risk management is a booming industry and growth market with tremendous opportunities for student jobs, industry partnerships, and high-impact research. From its start on the ports with Lloyd’s of London in the 1600’s to the sophisticated industry that it is today, the management of risk has both evolved and yet retained its traditions – much like us at Mizzou. So there can be no better time than during our Centennial Celebration for the Trulaske College of Business to begin this exciting program.”
