Rules and Competition Format

General format

The competition consists of two primary components, a Marketing Case Presentation (MCP) and a Sales Role Play (SRP).

Student competitors will prepare and present a twenty-minute team Marketing Presentation based on a specific topic provided by the E. & J. Gallo Winery Brand Team. Students are evaluated as a team based on their creativity, practicality of ideas and presentation skills.

The prize money will be split between the two students on each winning team. There is only one round of scoring for this portion of the competition.

All student participants will compete individually in a 15 minute Sales Role Play. The role play will be based on a unique scenario involving the sale of E. & J. Gallo products to a fictional buyer, played by an E. & J. Gallo representative. Students are evaluated on their sales skills during the role play.

A team award will be presented to the two students from the university with the highest combined student scores from the Marketing Case Presentation and Sales Role Play competition. The students from the winning university or college will receive a team trophy. There is no monetary award for the Team Award.

Student and Faculty Information

Each participating college or university may send two full-time undergraduate students to the competition. Each university selects a faculty coach who will assist in the preparation of the students for this competition. The faculty coach will attend the competition in Columbia with the students.

Training materials are provided to students to assist their preparation. Faculty coaches are responsible for helping students prepare for the competition.

Students must participate in both the Marketing Presentation and Sales Role Play portions of the competition in order to be eligible for a participation award.
