Missouri Office of the Public Counsel
Marc D. Poston is the Director of the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel representing the public before the Missouri Public Service Commission and in Missouri’s appellate courts. As Missouri’s Public Counsel, Poston manages a staff of attorneys and technical experts advocating on behalf of residential and business customers of Missouri’s public electric, gas, sewer, and water companies.
Poston has over 20 years of experience in utility regulation. Prior to his appointment as Public Counsel, Poston provided legal counsel to the Missouri Division of Energy as Senior Counsel with the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Poston also represented the public for 11 years as Senior Counsel and Chief Deputy Counsel for the Missouri Office of the Public Counsel, and 9 years as Assistant Counsel and Senior Counsel for the Missouri Public Service Commission, where he provided legal counsel to the Commission staff and represented the Commission in state and federal courts.
Poston also served on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Subcommittee on Telecommunications, the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA) Gas Committee, the Missouri Division of Energy’s Policy Advisory Council on energy efficiency and weatherization, and two years as Missouri’s Property Rights Ombudsman, providing guidance to Missouri landowners facing eminent domain and condemnation issues.
Poston earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where he was a member of the Environmental Law and Policy Review; a Master of Business Administration from William Woods University; and a B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Poston lives in Columbia with his wife, Kelly, and two children, Jack and Marley.
