MU’s Crosby MBA Program Earns Strong First Ranking in The Wall Street Journal

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri College of Business' Crosby MBA Program earned a ranking of #28 among "regional" MBA programs in the September 17 issue of The Wall Street Journal. The MU program had the third highest ranking among MBA programs at Big 12 universities. Among public universities, MU ranked #19 in the combined national and regional lists presented by the Journal.

According to the Journal, "regional," as contrasted with "national," means the "schools tend to draw many/most of their recruiters from their local regions." Rankings are based on the assessment of company recruiters, who were asked to rate the programs by evaluating 21 attributes and their future plans to recruit at that institution.

"This high national ranking in the analysis carried out by The Wall Street Journal indicates that MU's MBA program produces graduates who meet and exceed the expectation of employers," says Bruce Walker, dean of the MU College of Business. "It is very significant and gratifying to see that the Crosby MBA Program is passing the test in the marketplace."

The rankings compiled by The Wall Street Journal are also consistent with the recruiter assessment section of the April 2007 rankings published by U.S. News & World Report. In that report, MU's MBA program was ranked #22 among all programs and #8 among public institutions on the recruiter assessment criterion.

The Crosby MBA Program has moved up steadily in other national rankings as well. For the first time, MU's MBA program was ranked #46 overall and #21 among public universities in a ranking in the September issue of Forbes magazine. This ranking is based on the return on investment of MBA programs with an emphasis on future compensation, comparing income levels before and after earning an MBA degree.

"Clearly our students are well prepared for the job search process and are well regarded by corporate recruiters," says Michael Christy, director of the Crosby MBA Program. "They also exhibit a high level of competence in their careers and are compensated as such. I am extremely proud of the quality of our program, the contributions of our faculty and staff, and of our fine students and alumni."

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

The MU College of Business, founded in 1914, enrolls more than 4,000 undergraduate students and about 350 graduate students. The college has four academic units - Accountancy, Finance, Management, and Marketing - with 64 full-time faculty members. The college offers an undergraduate degree in business administration, an MBA degree, a 150-hour program that confers both undergraduate and master's degrees in accountancy, and PhD degrees in both accountancy and business administration and is the second largest academic division on the MU campus.
