Two of the college’s professional fraternities, Alpha Kappa Psi and Delta Sigma Pi, planned and carried out a new event for the College of Business, a Distinguished Alumni Forum.  Held on April 29, the inaugural Forum featured Jack and Mary Bush and Harry and Ann Cornell.  Naturally, the question-and-answer session was held in the Bush Auditorium in Cornell Hall.

“We see the Forum as a way to recognize some of the many alumni and spouses who have helped the college and have contributed to the education of the college’s students.  It’s also a great opportunity to meet them and gain insight into how they became so successful,” said Adam Stoverink, president of Alpha Kappa Psi and a May 2004 graduate of the college.

Stoverink and the president of Delta Sigma Pi, Mandy Gruchala, developed the idea for the Forum as a way to connect current students with alumni.  The program gave the two fraternities the opportunity to work together, rather than compete against each other as is normally the case.  Further, it allowed many students to learn about and from Harry and Ann Cornell, who provided a major gift that placed their names on the college’s new building, and Jack and Mary Bush, who did likewise for the 500-seat auditorium in the building.

“I was overwhelmed by the opportunity to interact with such esteemed individuals.  They are truly role models to us all,” said Gruchala, also a May graduate.

Approximately 350 students, faculty, and staff members attended the forum.  Students asked the four participants a variety of questions, some relating to business and others pertaining to broader aspects of life.
