Welcome to another issue of Mizzou Business Online. The 2003-04 academic year was enormously successful for the University of Missouri’s College of Business in many respects, several of which are featured in this newsletter.
The 2003-04 academic year began with the awarding of named professorships and chairs to nine of the college’s faculty members. Our enrollment grew again – to 3,950 students, compared to 3,000 in 2000-01. The college’s graduate accountancy and undergraduate business programs retained, respectively, their top-20 and top-50 national rankings. In addition, the MBA program’s ranking has improved by 16 places during the past two years.
After two years in Cornell Hall, I can say with confidence that the new building is a world-class teaching and learning facility. In particular, faculty members’ increasing use of the advanced technologies in the building – including two-way videoconferencing – is enhancing the educational experience for our students.
Fortunately, the College of Business has received increased funding from the university. In addition, and vital to building and sustaining educational excellence, our alumni and business partners have been generous during MU’s five-year capital campaign, giving more than $30 million toward the college’s goal to raise $40 million by the end of 2005.
Because of these developments, and also those covered in this newsletter, I truly believe that the phrase “Real Progress. . . Unreal Potential” applies to the business school here at the University of Missouri.
Best wishes for an enjoyable summer,
Bruce Walker
