Associate Teaching Professor. B.B.A. (1968), M.B.A. (1975), and Ph.D. (1980) from the University of North Texas. Professor Cunningham has received several awards for outstanding teaching, including a 2007 Williams-Keepers LLC Teaching Excellence Award in Accountancy, the 2005-06 Raymond F. and Mara A. O'Brien Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2003 Student-Athlete Advisory Council Most Inspiring Professor, the 2003 University Bookstore V.I.P (Very Influential Professor) Award, the 2000 College of Business Faculty Member of the Year, an Outstanding Faculty Award, presented by the Greek Councils of the University of Missouri, April 1998, and the 1995 Exemplary Accounting Educator Award from the Missouri Association of Accounting Educators. In addition, she was honored by 1998 Senior Class of the College of Business & Public Administration for Outstanding Contributions to Students. Professor Cunningham is the co-author (with Professor Loren Nikolai) of Accounting: Information for Business Decisions (Updated 2nd Edition textbook: Southwestern Publishing Company). In addition to conducting numerous workshops around the country on the use of writing exercises in accounting classes and on incorporating creative and critical thinking strategies into the accounting classroom, Professor Cunningham has published articles in professional journals, including Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Accounting Education, Accounting Education: A Journal of Theory, Practice and Research, The CPA Journal, Research in Accounting Regulation, Management Accounting, Essays in Economic and Business History, The Community/Junior College Quarterly of Research and Practice Special Edition on College Teaching and Learning, and The Community/Junior College Quarterly of Research and Practice. She received the 1986-87 Outstanding Article Award from the Two-Year College Section of the American Accounting Association. In addition, she serves on the Editorial Review Board of Issues in Accounting Education. Professor Cunningham is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA), in which she has served as Chair of both the Two-Year College Section and the Teaching & Curriculum Section. She has served on the AAA Accounting Education Advisory Committee, and as Vice-President and member of the Executive Committee of the AAA. Professor Cunningham has chaired or served on numerous Federation of Schools of Accountancy committees. She chaired the AICPA Core Competency Best Practices Task Force and served on the AICPA Pre-Certification Education Executive Committee. Professor Cunningham is an aerobics enthusiast and avid and slowly-improving golfer.
