Lighting

As you enter the room a motion sensor will turn on some of the lights. There are aisle light switches in the projection booth. The switches are at both ends of the booth. They are marked "Aisle Lights - Leave On at all times".

Touch Pad Controller

Light control for the room is done from the touch panels. One is located on the instructor's table and the other is in the projection booth. Ordinarily, users should have no need to access the projection booth. All light functions can be accessed by pressing the touch pad and locating the "Lighting" button. The pad may be dark (Sleep Mode), but touching it anywhere on the pad will turn it on. There are preset lights such as "All on Bright, Medium, Dim, All off ". Stage All and Blackboard can be adjusted as needed.

The advanced light control will allow adjustments of the following; rear of auditorium, mid auditorium, cove lights, stage lights, and theater spotlights.

Microphone/PA System Use

There is a dedicated wireless lavaliere microphone and two wireless heldheld microphones stored in the computer closet. Also, there is an extra 9-volt battery stored in the closet. Please contact Technology Services if you have a need for these. 

To turn the lavaliere microphone on, slide the switch on the top of the transimitter to the "on" position.  When finished, please return switch to the "off" position.

There are no dedicated wired microphones in the auditorium. A wired lapel or handheld microphone may be obtained for use by instructors teaching in the auditorium on a daily basis by contacting the Academic Support Center at 882-3608.

To use the PA system with a wired microphone, please contact Technology Services to obtain the needed equipment as we will need to make adjustments in the projection room to enable their use.

Document Camera

  1. Access the Main Menu on the touch pad
  2. Under device selection choose document camera.
  3. Make sure the power on button (right, top) is depressed on the document camera.
  4. Under projector controls choose power on (this will turn the projector on)
  5. Under output selection choose project + audio
  6. Zoom and Focus controls are located on the front panel of the document camera.
  7. Materials that are in Portrait versus Landscape orientation, must be manipulated up and down for viewing full page.

Videotape Playback

Videocassette playback functions are normally controlled using the touch pad (Any controls that are accessible on the front of the VCR itself also function, including On/Off.)

To play a VHS or SVHS tape:

  1. Access the Main Menu on the touch pad.
  2. Under device selection choose VCR.
  3. Under projector controls choose power on (this will turn the projector on).
  4. Under output selection choose project + audio.
  5. Insert the tape into the VCR.
  6. Push the 'Play' button on the touch pad. (Triangle Symbol). (If the record tab is out on the tape cassette, it will begin play immediately.)
  7. Under Volume Control use the media up/down buttons to adjust the tape audio volume in the room.
  8. Fast forward /rewind / pause symbols are also located on the touch pad.
  9. To stop the tape, push the Square symbol on the touch pad.
  10. To eject the tape, use the 'Eject' button on the VCR.

DVD Playback

DVD playback functions are normally controlled using the touch pad (any controls that are accessible on the front of the machine itself also function, including On/Off.

To play a DVD:

  1. Access the Main Menu on the touch pad controller.
  2. Press the 'DVD/CD' button under the Device Selection.
  3. Open drawer using the button on the DVD deck or the touch pad.
  4. Insert the DVD and close the drawer.
  5. Under projector controls choose power on (this will turn the projector on).
  6. Start the DVD by pressing the Triangle Button on the touch pad.
  7. Under Volume Control use the media up/down buttons to adjust the volume in the room.
  8. The fast forward/reverse/pause symbols are also located on the touch pad.
  9. The 'Menu', 'Display', and 'Cancel' buttons are used to access numerous options available on the DVD. The Display options are shown at the top of the screen. The button toggles through various features. The four triangle buttons along with the 'Enter' button are used with the Display button.

Audio CD Playback

Audio CD playback functions are normally controlled using the touch pad (Any controls that are accessible on the front of the CD player itself also function, including On/Off.)

To play an audio CD, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Main Menu on the touch pad.
  2. Press the DVD/CD button under the Device Selection.
  3. Open drawer using the button on the DVD/CD deck
  4. Insert the CD and close the drawer.
  5. Push the Triangle start button on the touch pad.
  6. Under Volume Control use the media up/down buttons to adjust the volume in the room.
  7. Various other symbols on the touch pad are used for skip forward, reverse, and track up/down changes
  8. Stop the CD by pushing the Square symbol button.

    Computer Hookup to Data Projector

    There is a dedicated computer built in to the equipment cabinet located in the A/V
    Closet. To use it, follow these steps.

    1. Access the Main Menu page on the touch pad.
    2. Press the 'Classroom Computer' Button under the Device Selection
    3. Under projector controls choose power on (this will turn the projector on).
    4. Use the wireless keyboard/mouse (on presenter's table) to control the computer using the projected image on the screen as your monitor.

    Note: Questions about user passwords and internet access for this computer should be addressed to Technology Services.

    Laptop Computer Hookup to Data Projector

    There are provisions for using a personal laptop computer with the data projector. To use a laptop follow these steps.

    1. Access the Main Menu page on the touch pad.
    2. Connect the VGA cable into the output of your laptop.
    3. Boot up your laptop.
    4. Under projector controls choose power on (this will turn the projector on).
    5. You should now see your laptop image on the screen. If you do not, be sure the laptop has been properly set to output an RGB signal. (Usually the Function button and one of the F buttons need to be pushed together to make this happen.) Check the owner's manual that came with your laptop if you are not sure how to get into this function.
    6. If you have audio on your presentation plug the 1/8" cable to your laptops' audio output. Under Volume Control use the media up/down buttons to adjust the volume in the room.

    Campus Cable Access

    The VCR in the A/V closet has Campus Cable capabilities. Set to "Line 1" input (shown in its front panel display) to avoid Campus Cable Channels sound from entering the room.

    Room users are strongly urged to contact the Academic Support Center (Ken Brokamp, 882-4381 prior to the start of their classes. An ASC staff member can meet with them in the auditorium to demonstrate operations and answer questions concerning their specific needs.

    The room is checked weekly for proper operation of the installed technology, but if you notice a problem, contact Academic Support Center Classroom Technology Services staff at 882-6703.
