Admission to Upper Level

If I make a 2.6 GPA, will I be admitted to the area of my choice?

Although 2.6 GPA is what you need to apply, it does not guarantee admission to any upper level emphasis area. Admission to upper level is competitive and is based on GPA and number of openings. The number of openings depends on the number of students graduating from that particular emphasis area.

What kinds of grades do I have to get to stay in the C of B?

You need to maintain the University minimum of a 2.0 GPA before academic actions will take place. However, you must have earned at least a 2.6 GPA to apply for the upper level. To graduate, your UM Cumulative GPA, your College of Business Cumulative GPA and your overall Cumulative GPA must all be a 2.0.

When do I apply to the Upper Level?

You can apply to upper level when you have earned 45 credits. However you must apply after the semester that you earn 60 or more credits. You must also have completed or have in progress the following courses: Accountancy 2036, Accountancy 2037, Economics 1014, Economics 1015, English 1000, Math, 1100, Math 1300, Math 1320, Statistics 2500.  Beginning with students admitted in the Fall 2004 catalog year, Management 1010 will also need to be completed or in progress.  Additionally, students must be in residence full-time (at least 12 credit hours) at MU for one semester before they can apply to an upper level degree program.

Which GPA is used?

For students admitted before catalog year Fall 2004 the cumulative GPA is used.  This includes grades earned at other institutions.  For students admitted in catalog year Fall 2004 and after, the Cumulative Grade of Record is used.  This is the University of Missouri System (UM) GPA.  Ask your advisor if you are not sure which GPA will be used for you, or which catalog year you fall under.

What if I change my mind later about which emphasis area I want?

If you are admitted to one emphasis area, then later decide you'd like to switch to another, come into 111 Cornell and fill out an Application to Transfer UL Emphasis Areas.  You will go through the competitive process just like anyone else who is applying for the first time.
