The gift establishes the Matteson Professor of Financial Services and the Matteson Financial Services Excellence Fund. The professorship and the fund allow the college to expand its educational and professional development activities in the area of financial services.

“Financial services such as insurance, risk management, and real estate provide career opportunities that are especially well suited to MU’s College of Business graduates,” said Duncan Matteson. “Shirley and I are pleased that our donation can contribute to strengthening the college’s educational developments in this area.”

The Matteson Professorship enhances the college’s resources to attract and retain top faculty and will be awarded to an outstanding business faculty member in financial services. The recipient will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, service effectiveness, and collegiality. The Matteson Financial Services Excellence Fund will be managed by the chair of the Department of Finance, Dan French, and will fund initiatives and activities in the area of financial services.

The Mattesons both attended MU. Duncan (BS BA ’56) is the chairman of Matteson Realty Services and of the Greater Bay Bank in San Francisco. He currently serves on the College of Business Strategic Development Board and is a member of the college’s For All We Call Mizzou campaign steering committee. He received an Alumni Citation of Merit Award from the College of Business in 1991 and an Alumni Award from the MU Alumni Association in 1994. Shirley (Arts ’55) is the executive vice president of Matteson Realty Services.
