Greeting from Dean Bruce Walker

Even during a financial crisis, the Trulaske College of Business has a mission – spanning instruction, research, service, and economic development – to fulfill.  We also need to maintain contact with our various stakeholders, including you.  We intend to do both as best we can during this challenging period.  In particular, we will make instructional quality and research productivity our highest priorities.

As you may know, the University of Missouri and thus the Trulaske College of Business are facing the same types of financial challenges that virtually every organization in the U.S. is trying to deal with during this economic recession.  As a result, we have taken steps and are planning others in order to control expenses.  For example, we have postponed most hiring of faculty and staff members, even replacements; curtailed travel; and deferred refurbishing and enhancements in Cornell Hall.

Meantime, I am very pleased by and proud of the wide range and beneficial impact of various educational programs and recent developments in the Trulaske College.  You can read about these activities in this issue of Mizzou Business Online.

The college is exceedingly proud to now be named in honor of alumnus Bob Trulaske, a very successful, ethical, and caring Missouri business owner.  The naming gift from his widow, Geraldine, has provided financial resources to advance the college’s eleven strategic priorities, which range from professional development of students to scholarly research.  Toward that end, following reviews of proposals submitted by teams of faculty and staff members, the college has made 15 grants totaling $1.25 million.  Each of the funded projects is intended to help achieve a primary objective associated with one of the priorities.  This process and the outcomes have created a high level of excitement in Cornell Hall!

Thanks very much for your continuing interest in and ongoing support of the Trulaske College of Business.  We are grateful.

Sincerely,

Bruce J. Walker Signature
