Sharmin Attaran

Sharmin Attaran is a fourth-year PhD Candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sharmin received her B.A. in Economics from UCLA and her MBA from CSUB. Her dissertation extends organizational identity and social identity theory by constructing a consumer-company identity congruence framework highlighting the influence of both individual and organizational level identity in consumers’ evaluations of organizations. Her research interests include identity theory, corporate social responsibility, boycott behavior, subsistence markets, and social entrepreneurship. She has published a book chapter in Advances in International Management, a paper in International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, proceedings for the 2007 ISMD Macromarketing Conference, and papers in several management journals. She has taught courses in Consumer Behavior, Retail Management, and Sales Force Management. She was chosen as a 2008 Converse Award Fellow, 2008 Association for International Business Fellow, and a 2006 Social Entrepreneurship Research Fellow.
