The MU College of Business is collaborating with the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute to form a CFA Program Partnership. The Mizzou business school is one of fewer than 40 CFA Partners in the world and the only collegiate business school in Missouri or in the Big 12 to achieve this distinction to date.
The invitation to participate in the CFA Program Partnership is extended to accredited institutions that have incorporated into their curriculum 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge, the CFA Institute’s ethical and professional standards. Recognition as a CFA Partner allows the institution to market its program to potential students and recruiters as being closely tied to professional practice and able to help prepare students for the CFA exams.
“Students in this program are exposed to the Candidate Body of Knowledge, concepts and principles that have been identified by investment experts worldwide as essential to global practice,” says Bob Johnson, CFA, managing director of the CFA and CIPM Programs Division. “By mastering these fundamentals of the CFA Program, students will be well on their way to earning the highly-valued CFA charter.”
John Stansfield, assistant adjunct professor of finance and one of four chartered financial analysts in the college, will serve as the director for the college’s CFA Program Partnership. Changes the partnership will bring to MU include 10 annual scholarships that allow students to sit for the CFA exam for a greatly reduced fee and a new course on ethics and corporate governance. The program will offer students access to CFA Institute textbooks, journals, webcasts, and other educational resources. Students will also benefit from professional development events held in conjunction with the CFA Society of St. Louis and the Kansas City CFA Society, the local membership bodies for CFA Institute candidates, charter holders, and members.
“Because of steps taken a decade ago to integrate coverage of the CFA Body of Knowledge into our curriculum, the college will now enjoy the recognition of being reviewed and approved by a practitioner organization,” says Bruce Walker, dean of the college. “Having achieved this distinction, the college has truly set itself apart from many peer institutions.”
The CFA Institute is the global, non-profit professional association that administers the Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum and examination program worldwide, publishes research, conducts professional development programs, and sets voluntary, ethics-based professional and performance reporting standards for the investment industry. The CFA Institute has more than 88,000 members in 129 countries and territories, including the world’s 76,000 CFA charter holders, as well as 134 affiliated professional societies in 55 countries and territories.
