On November 3, a group of 40 students and two faculty members from the College of Business went to Nebraska to meet the "Oracle of Omaha," Warren Buffett. This is the college's second annual meeting with the investing great, but the college has had some other links with Buffett in recent years.
The Department of Finance offers a unique elective course, "The Investment Strategies of Warren Buffett," that focuses on the investing principles of Buffett and his company, Berkshire Hathaway, which currently has a market value exceeding $150 billion. The class is exceedingly popular with MU students and was recently covered in a CNBC-produced profile of Buffett.
MU is one of a select group of universities invited by Buffett to spend part of a day with him in Omaha. The students learn from tours of Berkshire Hathaway businesses, such as Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheim's Fine Jewelry. Read More

To equip students with the values and skills they will need to contribute immediately once they start their first post-graduation job, the college arranges and supports a wide range of professional development activities. These activities include leadership training, case competitions, a networking event, job shadow opportunities, and a mentoring program. Some of the events are planned and carried out by students, and others are arranged by departments within the college. Read More |

In late 2005, the College of Business received an additional $4 million gift from Harry and Ann Cornell. In the 2006 fall semester,the impact of this donation has been seen not only in enhancements made in Cornell Hall but also in the launch of the Cornell Leadership Program (CLP).
Of the Cornells' total gift, $1.4 million has been earmarked for the new leadership program for top-quality undergraduate students. The program began with a group of 30 freshmen, who have an average ACT score of 30, and 20 upperclassmen, who have exceptional academic records and varied community involvement. Read More |
During 2006, members of the college's faculty and staff have been honored with awards from MU, the state of Missouri, and colleagues across the nation. "The quality of our faculty, staff, and students is essential to advance our college to a top 20 public business program. The strength of each group bolsters the others," says Dean Bruce Walker. Richard "Rick" Johnson has returned to the College of Business as the Emma S. Hibbs/Frederick A. Middlebush Chair of Entrepreneurship. The college also appointed Sam Goldman as director for the Jeffrey E. Smith Institute of Real Estate. Read More

About the College
The MU College of Business, founded in 1914, enrolls more than 3,950 undergraduate students and over 365 graduate students. The college has four academic units – Accountancy, Finance, Management, and Marketing – with 63 full-time faculty members. The college offers an undergraduate degree in business administration, an MBA degree, a 150-hour program that confers both undergraduate and master’s degrees in accountancy, and PhD degrees in both accountancy and business administration.
The College of Business takes great pride in its graduates. About 30,000 alumni are contributing their expertise to the public and private sectors in every state in the U.S. and in a host of foreign countries.
