Internship Description:
This internship is located in a human resources department responsible for providing support to an organization with diverse operational units located on four campuses with varying needs. Work is performed by a team of human resources generalists. The internship can provide exposure to the broad range of activity performed in the field of human resources, including organizational development, classification and compensation, employee relations, recruitment and selection, training and development and benefits and pay administration. Internships may focus on one or more projects in these areas.
At the completion of the internship, student will be able to:
Utilize methods to develop a business acumen suited to the current organization and/or specific work units.
Use available resources (example: regular or law library, on-line, publications, professional contacts).
Interact with management and staff appropriate to organizational hierarchy.
Create a work plan to achieve a desired outcome by an established deadline.
Describe the importance of developing methods to stay abreast of changes in the field, including changes in law.
Describe a comprehensive performance management system and its impact beyond periodic evaluations.
Create useful, relevant task/goal statements from general job descriptions.
Develop constructive, cooperative working relationships with others.
Possible projects:
Assist in the implementation of the Halogen performance management software and related activities to include job description review and development, participating in meetings, and potentially assisting in training sessions.
- Assisting in the retail titles classification project, including gathering information, doing salary market research, etc.
- Assist in performing a salary survey to include all of SAS.
- Assist in the development of a manager’s handbook.
