MARK A. JOHNSON (B.A. Sociology, MU, 1982) is Vice President and General Manager of Neighborhood Targeted (Preprint, Polybag and Sampling) products for Valassis, based in Livonia, MI. He is responsible for managing the business for several newspaper-delivered and direct to door products and services. He influences specific areas such as Product Management, Product Development, Product Pricing, Manufacturing (printing), distribution and Customer Marketing. Mark has had a 15-year sales and sales leadership history selling newspaper free-standing inserts (FSI’s) and insert advertising to many of America’s top 100 advertisers. During his career at Valassis, he has won the prestigious James F. Rourke Team Player of the Year Award. Prior to Valassis, Mark worked with the New York Times Magazine Group where he was the Director of Single Copy Sales. In this role he managed local and national single copy sales, marketing and distribution for several consumer magazines.
