Welcome to another issue of Mizzou Business Online. You should have received the recent issue of the college’s printed alumni magazine, Mizzou Business. (If you didn't receive a copy or would like to send a copy to a friend or colleague, contact mizzoubiz@missouri.edu.)
Over the past several months, the college has had some noteworthy developments that we would like to share with you:
- The Financial Research Institute held its annual symposium on October 5. Approximately 120 utility executives, government officials, students, and faculty members considered the "Future of State Regulation in an Increasingly Interstate (Federalized) Environment." The speakers included both state and federal officials.
- Allen Bluedorn, Emma S. Hibbs Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Management, presented MU's second annual Corps of Discovery Lecture on October 20. About 500 people heard Dr. Bluedorn discuss "All Times Are Not the Same: Time and Its Impact on Human Life."
- A team of students planned and conducted the 9th annual Leadership Conference on October 28. More than 100 students attended and learned about "Integrity: Your Pathway to Leadership." Representatives from Boeing, the conference’s primary sponsor, and 15 other companies worked with the students during the day-long event.
- The college continued to host, and our students have benefited from, an extensive array of executives and scholars who came to Cornell Hall to participate in our educational activities. Visitors ranged from Rodger Riney, CEO of the Scottrade brokerage firm, to Kusum Ailawadi, professor of marketing at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. If you would like to see a list of distinguished visitors, click here .
- The 17th annual banquet of the Davenport Society was also held on October 14, with attendance above 260 people. Gov. Matt Blunt, the featured speaker, talked about the importance of economic development to both the state and our university. Twenty-one new donors qualified for membership in the Society, based on a gift or pledge of at least $25,000 for the benefit of the College of Business. Our students introduced the new members. It was wonderful to see two of the college's faculty members, Al Bluedorn and Ratti Ratneshwar, and their spouses inducted as new members of the Society.
Thank you for your friendship and support. If you have comments or suggestions about Mizzou's business school, please send them to me at walkerb@missouri.edu.
