MU Finance Students Attend National Symposium for Student Investors
Six MU Students attended the RISE (Redefining Strategy Investment Education) Symposium in Dayton, Ohio March 30 through April 1. They are some of the more than 100 participants and over 100 colleges attending the event that included keynote speakers, workshops, and a portfolio competition.
The students that attended the symposium are part of the senior investments class taught by Dr. Cyndi McDonald. As part of the class, the students invest money from the Truman Tracy Fund, which has grown to over $68,000.
“The symposium was great because it allowed us the opportunity to here key players speak about the economy and their professional experiences and professions, which as a graduating senior I feel are important as I prepare to enter the work force and is also something I never would have had the opportunity to do had it not been for this class,” said Hardeep Singh, one of the student attendees.
This group of students entered the optional portfolio competition. Despite the outstanding returns the fund has had over the past year, it did not win any awards. The students are not discouraged by this, however. They are just glad to have had the experience.
“I think this class, the portfolio, and the symposium have definitely been one of the most unique and memorable experiences of my time in the College of Business,” said Singh. “It actually gives us a chance to apply the techniques and knowledge we gain in the classroom in a practical manner.”
