MU Professor Elected to be President of the Eastern Finance Association

Dr. Stephen Ferris, director of the Financial Research Institute and J.H. Rogers Chair of Money, Credit and Banking, was recently elected to be the next president of the Eastern Finance Association.  He will serve a one-year appointment in this position, beginning in April 2006.

During his term, Dr. Ferris will work to ensure that the association meets its mission of advancing the worldwide understanding of finance in all of its forms.  This includes his management of the association’s assets, providing direction of its annual meeting, reviewing the operations of its sponsored journal, The Financial Review and coordinating with the Eastern Finance Association’s Board of Trustees.  The EFA is a major regional finance association that encourages the development of finance through its publications and annual conference.  The EFA also provides a forum at its annual conference for job interviews for individuals seeking academic finance appointments.

Dr. Ferris was elected to this position after working with the EFA for nearly a decade.  He served as editor of The Financial Review for six years and has served on the EFA’s board of directors for the past two years.

Dr. Ferris’s contributions to the EFA will help to bring visibility to the Department of Finance and MU’s College of Business.  The participation of college faculty in such associations helps to promote awareness of the activities of departmental faculty among peers and is a definite plus when recruiting new faculty or seeking to place our own doctoral students.  Ferris notes that his involvement “helps to further cement the reputation of MU’s Department of Finance as a strong program with a nationally recognized faculty.”
