Deloitte Funds New Professorship

Accountancy Professor Inder Khurana Selected for Honor

A number of partners and employees of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, in conjunction with the Deloitte Foundation, recently established a new named faculty position, the Deloitte Professorship, in the MU College of Business.  Deloitte is one of the “Big 4” public accounting firms in the U.S.

The Deloitte Professorship is intended to provide recognition and support for an outstanding faculty member in the School of Accountancy.  Besides well-earned recognition, a named position provides the recipient with added resources, including a salary and benefits stipend, and funds for professional development.

After carrying out an internal search, Dr. Inder Khurana, professor of accountancy, was offered and accepted the Deloitte Professorship.  “I know Deloitte is committed to a positive and mutually beneficial relationship with the college and the School of Accountancy, and I am truly honored to be appointed as the inaugural Deloitte Professor," said Dr. Khurana.

A chartered accountant, Dr. Khurana received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University.  His research interests include corporate and international financial reporting and auditing.  His teaching interests are financial accounting theory and practice and financial statement analysis.  Dr. Khurana has taught courses at all three programs levels.  He is the recipient of several research and teaching awards, including MU’s Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence.

Currently, Dr. Khurana is a faculty advisor to Beta Alpha Psi, a scholastic and professional fraternity.  He has been actively involved in a number of committees at the school, college, and campus levels.

“As an alumnus and an advisory board member, I am pleased that Deloitte is able to support the School of Accountancy by establishing the Deloitte Professorship,” said Scott Picker, who is a partner at Deloitte Tax LLP.  “Our partners and employees believe this professorship will play an important role in the School of Accountancy's objective of attracting and retaining very talented and highly effective faculty members."

In addition to financial donations, Deloitte supports the School of Accountancy in other ways.  Employees of Deloitte volunteer as instructors through the Professor-for-a-Day program and serve on the School of Accountancy Advisory Board.  Deloitte also recruits accountancy students for both internships and full-time positions.

“We are very appreciative of Deloitte’s active participation with the college, and we are especially grateful for Scott Picker’s leadership in this initiative,” said Thomas Howard, Joseph A. Silvoso Distinguished Director of the School of Accountancy.
